In 1933, three brothers created the world's first liquid filled compass. This greatly improved explorers ability to navigate. The new company, called SILVA, would go on to create a headlamp. This would lay the groundwork for nearly a century of orienteering tools used to navigate in places where other tools like GPS would fail.
